As someone who works with realtors and business owners every day, I’ve noticed a common pattern I call “busy syndrome.”
It shows up like this:
"I’m too busy right now."
"I’m not busy enough to focus on that yet."
"Once I catch up, I’ll invest in marketing."
Sound familiar?
We either convince ourselves we're too busy to do the things that move the needle—or we're not busy enough to justify doing them at all.
The result? You spend days feeling productive responding to emails, making client calls, attending meetings, but somehow, your business isn’t actually growing.
That’s because these are all examples of motion, not action.
Motion vs. Action
Motion keeps you moving. It feels productive.
Action creates results. It is productive.
Think of it like this:
Motion is reworking your website endlessly.
Action is launching the site and driving traffic to it.
Motion is replying to leads.
Action is building a system to generate more.
You need both but if you’re stuck in motion, you’ll never see the growth you’re aiming for.
The Fall Market Is Shaped by What You Do Today
Realtors often get overwhelmed in the summer rush and let their long-term strategy fall to the wayside. But the outcomes you’ll see in the fall? They’re already being shaped right now.
If you’re not putting energy into building your pipeline, strengthening your brand, and staying top-of-mind, don’t be surprised when your business slows down later.
“I’ll Wait Until I’m Busier to Market”
This one gets me every time.
Agents say, “I’ll wait until things pick up before I start marketing.”
But don’t you see?
That’s exactly the problem.
Your clients aren’t just going to magically find you.
And while you're waiting for the phone to ring, another agent is putting themselves out there running ads, showing up on social, building trust, and getting the business you wanted.
You don’t market because you’re busy. You market so you get busy.
One Hour a Week—That’s All It Takes
If you can’t carve out even one hour a week to meet with your marketing team, review your strategy, or do something to work on your business, you’re stuck in motion. That’s the uncomfortable truth.
At the end of the day, busy syndrome is what keeps most agents from hitting their goals. But the top 1% in this industry? They know how to make time. They prioritize growth. And yes, they invest in marketing because they understand it’s not optional.
